What I wore to work today!

Totally channeling my inner desire to go to a private school. I remember back in the late 80's/early 90's, when I would get so sick of "wearing what everyone else was wearing"; Guess jeans (make sure you showed the triangular tag!), Guess button up shirts, Esprit everything, you get the drift. My mommy made sure her daughter went to school in clothes that didn't embarrass her. She was the local realtor...haha. So one day, I discovered Gap Kids. Turns out I would never ever fill out a size 14, let alone a size 16. I was THAT tiny. (Eventually my bf would introduce me to sushi and I became a size 0/2.) OMG. You would have thought I'd died and gone to private school uniform heaven. What did I buy? Funny you should ask. Khakis, a white button up and of course, a navy cardigan. It seemed so simple, yet timeless. So, here's to my youth, my first Gap Kids outfit...and to those who yearn for something basic, simple and pretty. My private school outfit, all grown up!

Testing colors, testing colors, 1, 2, 3...

Just throwing some color combo's out there to see if I can recycle some of my old stuff to wear with some of the new. I think it's a go. Let me know your thoughts...would YOU roll in this?

What I Wore Today!

So I must say, I haven't purchased much this summer season because a girl needs to know when to stop. (Example, I don't need more: cafe capris, jeans, shorts, tanks, tees, shoes, bags, cashmere-let's not even go near that one...) But one tiny top just. isn't. going. to. hurt. Right? Right.

Lightweight, unlined and beautifully colored- I made this my Fall transitional piece. The brown is like copper, and the blues bring anything but. The blues are a royal violet, and contrast really well with the browns and blacks. I really do love this top, along with the J.Crew Cashmere Keepsake Cardigan in black. I felt very vibrant, on an otherwise dull Monday.

What I wore to work today!

I wish I could skip Summer and go straight to Fall! How I love fall...the changing of the leaves (pshh...I live in So Cali), the changing me of my age (every reason to celebrate. There are 365 days in a year and each days brings me closer to another age. I'm not worried about getting older, I just want to make sure I enjoy each day to the fullest and that I've made a positive impact to everything I've encountered.)

Copper is the IT color for me. I think if there were to be more copper items this Fall, I've pretty much sold myself on how awesome this color is. The ruffled tank is from the jcrew outlets. Don't get me wrong, once in a while, there are some fabulous finds there! Paired off with some british khaki capris, I cruised through Friday with ease.

In a nutshell- this is a really nice cardi, a really nice tank...and you already know how cool cafe capris are! :)

My J.Crew version of a Happy Outfit....

Got June Gloom? Seems like summer is never going to get here. At least here in California that seems to be the case. Because of dreary days outnumber the sunny ones, I need to revamp some outfits to get me out of a funky mood and into a working, productive happy mood. I find wearing bright, happy, prints make up for the lack of sun...which is why I like this skirt. Need a pick me up? Pick up this skirt...if you, like me, could use pieces of clothing that smiles right back at you. And if today sucked for you, tomorrow is another day to get it right! :)

What I wore to work today!

Sometimes things get too serious around here and I have to just critter up this joint...

I'm not sure what kind of dogs they are, other than they're brown, and kind of resemble a wiener dog (cute!). I took this look from the model, who was wearing the silk hammered tank in fog. Some mornings, it takes me forever to figure out an outfit, but then I'm grateful for the way J.crew carefully styles their models, so I don't have to. Bravo, J.Crew, bravo, for taking the creativity hassle away from my otherwise busy mornings! :)

J.Crew Abstract Rose Strapless Dress- Size 0

Found it, got it, wore it! This was the perfect dress for my spring/summer graduations...I had it, then sold it, then hunted it down again (thank you personal shopper! :) ) It runs large, so I sized down to a 0 in this and paired it with some bright colors to bring out the colors in the dress. It was fun and kept me looking cool, yet hot, in the heat!

I still have several on ebay...so grab one if you are still looking for it- one left in each size!

J.Crew Jakarta Mini Skirt....Love it.

Casual...to glamorous. It's not hard to take a simple skirt and turn it into something fun and fantastic. Machine washable, in this season's cutest print, I've paired it up with some gold to give it the perfect shine (it deserves!). The sateen shirt by itself w/white jeans and strappy sandals goes really well too.

What I wore to work today!

So the genius in me figured out how to cut/post from my ebay pictures. I guess my college degree paid off because I can work and blog at the same time! So here's the deal. I saw the new rollout today and thought to myself, it would be great to wear something from the collection so that I don't totally feel left out...so I did. I wore my new Ikat Jakarta cardigan. Because I'm in the process of pulling items to incorporate with my older stuff, I threw this outfit together in record time. I figured the navy (almost looks black) from the sweater + something brown would look nice, and throw some white jeans to tie it altogether.

It makes me happy when I can find new uses for older pieces...and less guilty! :)

What I wore to work today!

The Joelle Cami...I loved this a little late in the game and ended up getting them all on sale. It's a bit loose, so I sized down in these. For $15/a piece, you can't beat it!

Occasionally, I'll get so swamped with work, I end up working...and not blogging or creating outfits...etc, etc. So here's my dilemma. Each morning, when I get ready for work, I find myself unable to pick out which outfit I want to wear. I'm spoiled by my hobby and have a lot of clothing. It's sometimes to my detriment, because it ends up taking forever to pick something out that I'm totally in the mood for. Several times, I rushed through the process and threw together something that had no "wow" factor and went to work feeling absolutely ugly. How sad, right?

So, to make my process easier, I think about what colors I'd like to wear together, and then polyvore...in my head. Yes. That's what I do. I pretty much memorize what color combinations look good together, inspired by the mannequins or catalogs, and go from there. I find that grey/citron, grey/bright fuchsia, navy/orange, brown/green, etc go well together.

Here's another secret way I do it. I look inside the clothing for the lining details (especially jackets), or the lining of the capri's, etc for inspiration. I mean, someone went to the trouble to do that ribbon detail, so they must have thought light khaki and salmon match, or tawny olive and deep purple/orange/yellow would jive.

Hope that helps all you ladies out there who stand in front of your closets, perplexed. :)

What I Wore to Work Today! 6/4/09

It's still relatively chilly for June in So Cal...this is an oldie but a goodie. I love the tailored look of the abbey jacket, 3/4 sleeves. Throw on some long double strand pearls and I'm ready to hit work, where I an relax, drink my coffee, blog...and of course, work.

What I Wore to Work Today!

We're celebrating JUNE GLOOM here in So Cali, and it's rough. Every day, it's gloomy. But the best part? Wearing a bright outfit! I chose the Holly Jacket over the Sateen Blazer, because the blazer looked too "corporate" and I'm done with that look. So the Holly Jacket, paired with a bright silk top made for a lovely pairing. It's a very girlie jacket, 3/4 sleeves and has the slightest glimmer in the threading to give it some subtle shine. Ever in a bad mood? Wear something bright- you'll shine yourself out of any funk!
